The three boys at the Rescue Cottage

This is Lucas with his prize 'Squeaky Ball"

This is Barnaby in the background, and Dudley in the foreground experiencing the big dog yard for the first time since the big blizzard!

We have 3 wonderful additions to the dog level at the Rescue Cottage! The first to arrive was Dudley, a terrier/poodle mix who came to us from Bloomfield Animal Control. He's just a puppy at about 9 months old. He loves to play with toys of all types and is learning to entertain himself with all of the wonderful toys we have at the Rescue Cottage.

Barnaby is a young male Beagle/Boxer mix who came to us from Windsor Animal Control. He came to us because he's shy with people, but in the two weeks since he's been with us he's made amazing progress!

Lucas is a 9 year old purebred Cocker Spaniel who came our way from another organization. He's battled ear and skin issues his whole life and is happy to be with us where he can finally overcome them (and play with only yellow tennis balls--that's right, no other color ball will do). He's only been with us a week, but has settled right in to our daily routine.

All three are up for adoption (Lucas needs a little more time with us, but we would happily take applications to adopt him). Public hours are Saturday's from 12-2, so feel free to come by and meet the eligible batchelors of the dog level!

Are you looking for a fill of CUTE?

Actually, it's Adopt a Rescued Rabbit month and we are hoping you'll do just that! While you often hear us talking about homeless cats and dogs, there are tons of homeless rabbits in need of rescue as well.    Carmel is the perfect example:   she was living in an outdoor hutch and her owner did not want to keep her as an indoor pet.   Our Companions got involved and after promoting her for adoption, just the right home was found for her.  She will be living the good life and sharing her home with feline companion, Pearl.   For more information on Rabbit Care or Adopting a Rabbit, contact our Helpline.

Home Grown in CT!

I admit it. I'm a Yankee. Born and raised in CT. So perhaps that's why I have a soft spot for CT's homeless animals.

Many people don't realized that there are thousands of beautiful animals right here in CT shelters who are desperate for good homes. Our municipal animal control shelters often don't have the funds to widely advertise their pets and as a result many go unnoticed and are euthanized.

Each day I meet wonderful people who have rescued pets from shelters. And 9 times out of 10, they came from shelters outside CT. Come my Yankee friends, lets also consider those who are home grown and right here in need our own backyard.

To raise awareness to adopt CT homeless pets we have created a PSA. Take a look and please let us know if you have contacts with cable access stations or broadcast stations that would consider including the PSA to their programming list.

Dear Friends, Supporters and Committed OC Volunteers,

Well, Blizzard Charlotte is over and digging out at the Sanctuary is almost complete.  The Rescue Cottage guest dogs and cats got through the storm with barely a blip on their radar and all is well at our beautiful sanctuary.
Eva is too busy being cute to notice the storm!

Oh, Marilyn loves the sofa bed pulled out!

As with all successful things at Our Companions, it is the volunteers who are the key.  We owe big thanks to:
Greg Zlotnick - not only did he come by the day of the blizzard to make sure our standby generator was full of fuel and running properly should a power outage happen.........
But, he was back the next day to rescue staff stranded at the cottage due to the huge drifts that settled in...............our hero :)
Paul B - He didn't hesitate to fire up the OC snowblower and worked tirelessly to ensure that the staff and volunteers could easily get to the rescue cottage.  He even braved huge drifts out in the dog yard to make sure that adorable Dudley could get outside and run.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Krystal R. - The guardian angel of Storm Charlotte for our sanctuary animals.  Krystal made sure they were not alone, they had the love and attention they are so used to,  and that they were well cared for at all times throughout the storm.
Jon and Renee - Some people take their jobs seriously, and then there are people like Jon and Renee who go above and beyond.    They demonstrate a committment to the OC animals that is second to none.
Karen - who got in to work this morning at her usual early bird time of 7 a.m.  She's not going to let a little thing like three feet of snow stop her from taking care of her charges.

They say it takes a village........and I for one, could not be more grateful and more proud to be a part of this amazing adventure that is the Our Companions Animal Rescue!

Adorable Dunkin Adopted!

Our sweet, fluffy, adorable Dunkin was adopted! He had been at the Sanctuary since November and melted the hearts of many.

He is a fun loving, playful guy, who definitely takes his time getting to trust his human friends.

His new owners really understand cats and are prepared to give him all the time he needs. He is going to live with another very sweet and playful cat, Cinder as well as an adorable 10 year old girl.
