Thank you for the pet food donation!

When most people think of a birthday party, they think of decorations, cake and presents.   Well, not this amazing young woman.  She requested that each person attending her recent birthday party bring a pet food product in lieu of a present.  This compassionate animal lover has been caring for and helping animals since she was a little girl.  Incredibly, this is the 5th year in a row that she was selflessly given up her own presents to help those less fortunate.   She collected an large amount of much needed dog and cat food for the sanctuary.  We are thrilled to accept her generous donation on behalf of the animals.
THANK YOU!

We have puppies!

3 little girl puppies arrived at the Sanctuary this week. Below are some photos from their first outing to the yard off the kitchen:

Introducing Aurora (Tan and White) and Aggie (Black and White) checking out the big world just out that door.

Aurora is leaving the stoop, she joined Anabelle who was already outside checking everything out.

Last was Aggie, who needed a little coaxing.

But she made it!

Leaves are the best toys on the planet!!!

We are currently accepting adoption applications for them--they are approximately 8 weeks old and will be ready to go in a couple of weeks. They are a mix of breeds including pitbull and I think I see some hound or lab in them. Come visit them during public hours on Saturday from 12-2 or by appointment.

Show your support for animal protection laws This Friday, March 15th at the CT Legislative Office Building!

As many of you know, Our Companions works closely wtith CT Votes for Animals, the state’s only CT based political organization that works on legislation to protect our states animals.

This Friday there is hearing on 3 important bills.

  • HB 5844, would prohibit chaining a dog outside at night between 10pm and 6am, and require that chained dogs have appropriate shelter during harsh weather conditions.
  • HB 5836, would utilize existing funds in the state's Animal Population Control Program (APCP), to expand spay/neuter and vaccination benefits to pets belonging to low-income families.
  • There is also a bill we are supporting, HB 5027 that is a ban on the sale of puppy mill dogs from pet shops!
The Capitol has seen numerous interest groups and visitors come and go so far this year - everyone from the NRA to environmental groups to Girl Scouts has paid a visit, but they haven't yet seen a solid show form people who care about the welfare of animals.

This Friday, we need to show the Environment Committee that animals are well-represented in this state and that we would like to see major improvements for them, especially humane legislation!!!

The hearing for our bills is this Friday at 10:30 in Room 2B of the Legislative Office Building. If you can come for just one to two hours between 10:30 and 1:30, to just sit in the audience, it would make an OUTSTANDING impression on the Committee.

Just imagine a hearing for our bills with standing-room only!! You don't want to miss this!!!
If you'd like to provide written testimony, that would also be extremely helpful.

There is so much going on and its getting really exciting! Thank you for being such a vital part of this historic change for animals !!

Comfort....... our human visitors deserved some too!  After all, we are so focused on our cats here at the Sanctuary, we sometimes forget that our volunteers and visitors may also enjoy having a seat once in a while!

New chair generously donated to Rescue Cottage

The chair arrived and immediately was claimed by Vicky who gave it a quick once over and a nod of approval before she was off to get involved with some other activity.

Marilyn tests out the firmness and decides the chair can stay!  We look forward to the day when the seat is actually vacant and a human can sit in it.  Only time will tell.
